The Client Relationship - How to
Communicate and Collaborate Effectively

Client relationships are essential to your business, fostering repeat business,
account growth and referrals that contribute to your company’s stability and
success. Strong client partnerships are founded on trust and open communication,
reducing the risk of misunderstandings and allowing you to deliver on your promises
and provide value to your clients. However, not every client relationship is as
healthy as it should be. Use this article to learn how to identify weak spots in your
client relationships and how to strengthen them to improve your overall business
performance.

Establish a culture of collaboration within your team. It starts with your management
and leadership: set an example by practicing respect for all points of view and
avoiding arrogance or petty gossip. It also means opening up your door to outside
views and advice when necessary. This helps everyone develop an ability to work
effectively with people with different styles, approaches and personalities.

Make sure your team is using all available tools for effective communication. For
instance, Slack is a great tool to use for quick questions and huddles. For more in-
depth conversations, try a Slack canvas, which provides an online whiteboard for
teams to collaborate on projects. This allows for a more structured approach to
discussions, making it easier to capture action items and next steps.

Show your clients that you care about them as people. While this will vary depending
on the nature of the project and your connection with each client, small touches
such as checking in between project touchpoints or remembering details about their
lives and personalities can go a long way.

Ensure that your deliverables are always at the highest quality. This will not only
impress your clients, but will position you as a trusted partner that takes pride in
your work and is eager to provide the best possible results. This is especially
important if you are competing for new business or seeking to secure a renewal of a
contract.

Clients can tell when you’re trying to please them by noticing how much effort you
put into your work. Don’t oversell your services or promise unrealistic results. It’s
better to be honest than to disappoint your clients, even if it hurts in the short term.
Take your client relationships to the next level. Use this chart to plot your
relationships based on how essential they are to your business and see how you can
make them stronger. Then, use this information to develop a strategy to make your
client relationships more effective for your firm. You’ll enjoy greater success and
more recurring revenue as a result.

Hi, I’m Albert Tichenor, a digital marketing coach from Indiana. For years, I felt trapped in a cycle of working just to get by, stuck in a warehouse job that drained my time, energy, and dreams. After many failures, setbacks, and lessons, I finally broke through—and now I help others do the same. My mission is simple: to empower everyday people to build digital businesses that give them true freedom, so working a job becomes a choice, not a necessity.
